WARNING: Bush goes from Hel to Rome

Today a short friendly visit, despite some indigestion, by president G.W.Bush of the USA to Poland. His arrival is planned for 16:20 at the Gdańsk-Rębichowo Airport.
Next he’ll talk with Lech Kaczyński at the presidential residence in Hel. The visit will be accompanied by protests, which we’ll try to relate to you. original source from cia.bzzz.net

https://torun.axxs.org/3286
http://cia.bzzz.net/bush_na_helu

* 18.40 – Nearly everyone has already left the place of the demonstration. The number of police has dropped, though there is still a water cannon in place. Some are returning by bus, others by train or hitchhiking.

* 18.00 – Demonstrators are trying to annoy Bush during his walk by the sea by making lots of noise. The action is nearing its end.

* 17.20 Two activists climbed 20 metres up a tree and have hung a banner “BUSH OUT”. A US flag has been burnt.

* 17.10 Bush’s visit has induced chaos in the Tri-City transport system since the security services have blocked the roads around the city. Gigantic bottlenecks are forming. And in any case, Bush went by helicopter…

* 17.00 – The demo continues. Happenings [polish word for political street theatre] are taking place – one person dressed up as Bush.

* 16.30 – Bush has arrived at the Gdansk-Rebicho Airport. Lech Kaczynski is waiting impatiently for him. As gazeta.pl [polish media service dependent on the USA Council of Foreign Relations] reports, at about 17:30 at the centre of Hel, presidents Bush and Kaczynski and their wives are expected to have dinner. On the menu: salmon tatar, barszcz czerwony, blintz, lamb and fish and for dessert – sorbet with fruit.

* 15.40 – The protestors are using their own bodies to construct the message “GET OUT” so that it should be visible from the helicopter on which Bush should arrive on the spot.

* 15.00 – The demonstrators got through the police cordon by another route and go to the garden with access to the presidential residence. They can’t get further, so they’re demonstrating on the spot. Music is playing, it’s a picnic type atmosphere. There are still lots of police, who are surrounding the demonstrators from three sides.

* 14.57 – Info from the route to Hel: police cars and about 20 police are still standing behind Władyslawowa [street name(?)], so the blockade is continuing.

* 14.55 – The police are opposite the people marching and are tying to blockade it. The demonstrators are standing and playing sambas.

* 14.40 – the demonstrators are still gathering. The situation has calmed. There are more and more people, because some of those protesting got past the blockades. Now our correpondent estimates that there are about 200 demonstrators. About 10 plainclothes police spies are trying to mix into the demonstration. They have not yet managed to provoke anything. The police are filming the demonstration.

* 14.30 – Police are pushing the protestors, trying to shift them of the path.

* 14.25 – Protestors are moving in the direction of the presidential residence at Jurata. The police continue to escort them.

* 14.00 – The police are still surrounding the demonstrators and preventing any movement. The samba group is playing, there are flags waving.

* 13.50 – The situation has calmed down, but there’s still many police in full gear blocking the demonstrators. People are playing musical instruments. We have been informed that some of the people blocked at Wladyslawowa managed to get to Jurata, some are still trying to get there. Anarchists are leading the group to an area in front of the police and waiting in front of the cordon. The crowd is having fun.

* 13.38 – 40 people going to the demonstration have been held up in a bus near Wladyslawowa.
